What You'll Do:

As the Heat Treat & Lab Tech Associate you will operate heat treat equipment and perform various testing on parts, ensuring customer and quality goals are met.

Your Accountabilities:

  • Collects and records the serial numbers from the parts in each heat treat load into ERP system timely and accurately.
  • Loads/unloads parts into heat treat ovens utilizing the charge cart system equipment, safely and timely.
  • Monitors heat treat temperatures, alarms, and system, and communicates any out of tolerance issues to management as well as documents areas of concern.
  • Operates handsaw to cut part and perform sectioning safely and within specifications.
  • Operates CNC Lathe machine to perform ultimate tensile strength (UTS) testing safely and within specifications.
  • Performs testing on yield strength, elongation, hardness, as well as a microscopic evaluation of each heat treat batch and part, ensuring testing meets quality specifications.
  • Records data into ERP for data archiving and heat treat lot approval.

Position Requirements:

  • Education: High School Diploma or GED preferred; may consider equivalent course work with proven experience for the right individual.
  • Experience: 2-3+ years' experience operating CNC Lathe, Bandsaw, and basic hand tools within a heavy manufacturing environment. Prior CNC programming experience helpful.
  • Certification(s): None
  • Functional Skills: Ability to operate Bandsaw, CNC lathe and utilize basic hand tools as needed for testing and part finishing. Ability to read and understand blueprints, specifications, procedures, and work instructions along with the ability to read material analysis/testing, compare to specifications and report on deviations. Strong attention to detail with the ability to
  • Technology Aptitude/Skills: Good computer skills, data entry and basic keyboard, operator interface with equipment, ability to record serial numbers with ERP system.
  • Language Skills: Good verbal and written communication to document part variances as needed.
  • Leadership/Behaviors: High Safety minded with a strong work ethic and values, focused on the customer, quality, and accuracy, takes the time to do things right yet is flexible to cross-train and move to other priorities throughout the department.

Pay Programs: Pay is commensurate with proven expertise!

Reports To: Heat Treat and Melt Supervisor

Core Hours: Day Shift: 6:00 am - 2:30 pm Afternoon Shift: 2:00 pm -10:30pm Night Shift: 10 pm - 6:30 am

Typical Work Week: M-F; some weekends required; 40 45 hours a week on average.

Direct Reports: N/A; Works with other departments as needed.

Travel: None

Work Conditions: Regularly exposed to a manufacturing environment with moderate to loud noise. The employee is regularly required to wear suitable Personal Protective Equipment such as metatarsal steel-toed shoes, face shield, helmet, safety glasses, hard hat, and ear plugs. Frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts, and occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles. The environmental climate is heated in the winter and hot in the summer. Lifting up to 50 lbs. sporadically is also needed.
