What You'll Do:

As the Product Development Engineer, you will be responsible for planning, innovating, and designing products used within the Automotive and RV markets to create enhanced, reliable, robust and easy to use systems for our customers.

Your Accountabilities in the Role:

  • Plans, designs, and supports the Engineering Team in creating manufacturable solutions with a goal of increasing profit and market share.
  • Calls and visits customers, with Product Managers and/or other team members, to get feedback from customers on enhancements desired through a structured Voice of the Customer process.
  • Works with Engineering, Sales, and vendors on current product functionality and processes to find ways to optimize the product definition's value to our customers while managing cost and quality.
  • Collaborates across engineering teams to help solve challenges quickly to minimize impact on customers.
  • Supports the Engineering teams in the creation of product instructions, proposals, quotes, customer prints, marketing material, etc. to ensure clear understanding of system capabilities.
  • Supports Sales and Product Managers in providing answers to customer and dealer questions about our product, servicing, and other technical aspects of the product for timely resolution.
  • Reviews product information and related compliance matters to ensure all legal and industry requirements are being met.

Position Requirements:

  • Education: A Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering required (Electrical Engineering with strong mechanical skills will also be considered).
  • Experience: 1+ years of related design engineering experience preferred (would consider an internship, co-op rotations, or special projects) within a product development environment, within an automotive, specialty vehicle, or related industry preferred.
  • Certification(s):
  • Functional Skills: Strength in the design, development, and implementation of enhanced products, components, and systems; strong detail orientation with excellent time management, planning, prioritizing, and organizing skills that are required to work effectively in managing various projects. Must be able to take initiative, analyze situations to determine the best method, be forward-thinking, and a strong problem-solver who can make solid decisions. Excellent math and problem-solving skills are also necessary in the role.
  • Problem-Solving: Will use specific to broad guidelines and objectives to research, develop, problem-solve, and decide on a Plan of Action.
  • Accountability: Operational/Conceptual integration of activities; diverse in nature; indirect impact to business goals.
  • Technology Aptitude/Skills: Advanced Microsoft Office experience required along with common CAD (preferably Solidworks), office and software development tools. Analysis Software experience (like FEA), with understanding of how to apply to real designed solutions preferred.
  • Language Skills: Advanced written, verbal, and presentation skills; able to collaborate with external and internal groups. Able to effectively communicate complex engineering concepts in simple, effective terms.
  • Leadership/Behaviors: Customer-focused, supportive, self-driven, and results-focused. Can work in teams and independently. Strength in learning and applying complex engineering concepts; High-quality and compliance minded individual; meticulous with work and safety focused. Strong collaboration/influencing skills are needed to effectively partner with others, listen to ideas, and implement the best enhancements. Ability to be positive, conceptualize and move forward with projects that are viable and cost effective is also important in this role.

Reports To: Engineering Manager

Core Hours: 7:00 am 6:00 pm; 8-9 hours within this timeframe; some flexibility

Typical Work Week: M-F; few Saturdays as needed; typically, 40 -45 hours a week on average
