What You'll Do:

As the Construction Inspector, you will inspect all stages of construction projects involving public infrastructure, ensuring procedures and materials comply with both client and business specifications.


Your Accountabilities in the Role:

  • Collaborates with Project Engineers and Supervisors to perform full time site-observation for projects.
  • Coordinates with contractor and testing labs for any materials testing required by the project specifications and inspects contractor's work for conformance with project specifications.
  • Maintains daily records of instructions and directions given to the contractor regarding plan and specification interpretation.
  • Measures, calculates and documents installed and accepted quantities for payment on contractor's pay request.
  • Coordinates construction activities with residents, utility companies and other public agencies (e.g. INDOT, cities, counties) to ensure safety during project.
  • Attends and actively participates in preconstruction and progress meetings providing updates as requested.
  • Reviews and approves traffic control plans for safety and coordinates road closures with emergency services.
  • Inspects trench backfill, sub-grade and aggregate base course for grade, compaction, moisture, preparation for paving, installation of water lines, sewer and storm drains.
  • Initiates project close out documents.
  • Responds to emergency "call outs" on construction projects.
  • Responds to and resolves public inquiries and complaints related to construction project and development in a calm, professional, and accurate manner.
  • Obtains and maintains various certifications.

Position Requirements:

  1. Education: A High School Diploma or GED is required.
  2. Experience: 0-5 years of experience; willing to train the right person.
  3. Certification(s): N/A
  4. Functional Skills: Strong organization, prioritization, and time management skills. Proven ability to work as a team with co-workers and managers. Strong attention to details, analytical, thoroughness, and accuracy. Forward-thinker with excellent problem-solving skills required, utilizing a broad set of guidelines.
  5. Technology Aptitude/Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office products including Excel, Word, Project, and Outlook; Experience with SiteManager a plus.
  6. Language Skills: Advanced written and verbal communication skills; can present to large groups, where applicable.
  7. Leadership/Behaviors: Collaborative, innovative, supportive, and client/goal-focused; ability to be flexible, adaptable to move efficiently with business/project changes; Self-directed and strong quality focus.
  8. Culture Match Behaviors: Professional in appearance, strong work ethic, high integrity and accountability, who performs work from the discovery, to the design/process, and throughout the project/task steps in a way that provides the best comprehensive, quality product that fits the client's needs and is aligned to the goals & values of LFA.

Other Important Information:


Salary: Salary is commensurate with proven expertise.

And, the compensation will grow as the team member grows!


Reports To: Construction Project Supervisor/Project Engineer

Core Hours: 8:00 am - 5:00 pm EST

Typical Work Week: M-F; with approximately 40-45 hours a week on average

Direct Reports: None

Travel: Travel to Project Sites Daily

Work/Environment: Able to work effectively outdoors in inclement weather conditions and may be required to wear suitable Personal Protective Equipment.
